Did you get a new sewing machine for Christmas?
Or had one sat gathering dust for a while?
Get Sewing is a 5 week course to give you confidence to use you machine and make a variety of projects, accompanied by tea and cake (totally essential!) All materials and refreshments provided (unsless stated). Bring your own sewing machine to start a lifelong partnership (but if you don’t have one email us before booking so we can make sure we have one for you.)
Starting with the basics of threading up your machine and sewing in a straight line, we’ll make a cushion cover in week one. In week two you’ll master the zipper foot, making a handy make-up bag. (You’ll be making these as gifts for all your friends this year.)
Then we’ll measure you up and create an easy no-pattern garment (you bring your choice of fabric for this)
For those who get the basics quickly, each project has Step Up ideas to take your project a bit further.
By the end of the 5 weeks you will have been introduced to all the settings, feet & dials on your machine, and go away with some ideas for sewing on your own. You’ll learn basic fabric handling and the different fabrics and their uses, and how to adjust your machine accordingly.

Ooh it’s been an interesting week on the web with lots to distract me from all the stuff I should have been doing! So now I’m going to pass it on to you and cause you some procrastination too… It’s only fair!
Perfect for a super speedy gift idea, we managed to put this tutorial together during an evening at the pub. You could still make one in time for Mothers Day, or make for friends’ birthdays the night before… I can’t be the only one with a horrendous memory for dates!
As you’ll see from the atmospheric lighting in the photos, the roaring fire and the slowly emptying glass of wine, we really did make this in one evening, whilst chatting at the pub. So with this Make it Yourself (#MIY) tutorial you can make/do something new.
You will need:
A wide narrow strip of light cotton fabric. Ours was about 40” x 3”
A small piece of slightly heavier wight fabric
A pair of scissors
Sewing thread (a sturdy thread, or just double it over as you’ll be pulling it tight)
Every week we’re going to inspire you and hopefully make you chuckle as we bring you a round up of what we’ve spotted online in crafting blogs, websites and shops. So here goes week 1!
I love a good Buzzfeed. To be honest, they’re about the only Facebook links I ever bother to click through to these days, and few disappoint. So when I spotted this one I knew I had to share it with you. It’s a little American (no offence intended US buddies!), but has a couple of great thrifty ideas for crafting. My favourites are the ribbons stored on a kitchen roll holder and the bobbins in the pedicure foam – both will be implemented very soon in my messy craft storage! Continue reading →
